The real patch that I could imagine whould be to roll back the changes The author of the changes recommended me to write to this maillist. If these changes are done, there should be a reason to do them. Well, it looks like that the changes broke what was working in previous version and nobody cares about this.
I cannot make the changes since I do not know the reasons the code was changed I can just describe the problem and politely ask for changes. Thus, I'm asking, politely....
