Since the (positive) vote on making POI Serializers and Generators part of Cocoon, many things have happened.
POI is now part of Jakarta (http://jakarta.apache.org/poi/), the build configuration we came up with is a separate project (http://www.krysalis.org/) and is used by Forrest, and I am now an active part of this family :-) On suggestion of the POI developers, I've refactored and Avalonized the Serializer to make it ready for inclusion in Cocoon. There is a new Avalon component, called elementprocessor, with an implementation for POI in ./components/elementprocessor/impl/poi and three Serializers (two abstract) to be put under ./serialization . I'm ready to put it in the main cocoon classes, and I've had +1 from Andy for this.
