Does this mean that I still have a chance to make a point here? As far as I understand the Servlets API is a very successful one and it's designed flexible enough to server other applications like XSLT translets, RMI, CORBA, etc. which are not coupled with HTTP and HTML.
I would imagine that a command prompt based implementation can be based on the standard API. After all its just a set of interfaces which people learned and understand. Why not leverage this fact? I can't see clearly why Cocoon wouldn't want to extend & implement vs. duplicate the API. Sorry if I am too offensive and short sighted. No harm intended.
