I'm in the same boat (see post http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=xml-cocoon-dev&m=102473264029588&w=2) I think Berin may have supplied the answer in an earlier repetition of this problem; that Excalibur was compiled with JDK1.4, and needs recompiling under 1.3.
