recently I came across another PDF generator from www.faceless.org Their input file is not XSL-FO, but proprietary XML format, which is very close to HTML with CSS.
I even have been able to make a serializer for it. Unfortunately, I can't post it here, because the vendor didn't responded positively to my request to change the API.
