I've fixed it already.
I can confirm, that after a './build.sh clean', the database block now compiles on MacOSX & 1.3.1.
Also (for the first time ever!!) I got './build.sh run' to work!!
(after un-commenting the 'exclude.webapp.samples=true' as Stefano pointed out).
