This sounds to me like you do not have your local catalog properly configured for the Simplified DocBook DTD. Did you follow the instructions on that page? You can raise the verbosity level of the entity-resolver to 10 in cocoon.xconf and watch the catalog loading messages when Jetty starts and when you access the webapp sample. --David
