I found a mention of this work in the archive of users.  It looks like
they (he and Lajos) were able to incorporate all the session preserving
function they were working on by implementing a protocol handler:

So I guess they'd be able to use either WSPG or HPG.

I'd like to triple check the functionalities and have some doccos before
removing it... I use the proxy block @ work, so hopefully I'll be able to
maintain it! :-)
