I don't think it's the problem:

But isn't it because you are using different crimson versions? 

If you built  the cocoon webapp like in  installation documentation, I
don't know how you had this problem? 

I got c2b2 and t4b7 running well on MacOSX with no problem (employeedb
run also...  which is not the  case with my  (Debian)LinuxBox - hsqldb
problem - I had to make a postgresql version of the database to get it
working).
