I'm afraid that I don't why you got the message that you describe. But I'm am having no ploblem using Cocoon 2 with Java 1.4 beta 2.
I am using Tomcat 4.0, JBoss 2.4.3 and Cocoon 2 on a windoze 2000 sp2 platform.
