In our environment we call cocoon stuff the following way http://arabica_dev.roche.com:20838/cocoon/pdo/index_xmlmap.xml
the static stuff is server by the webserver using /unicorn_common/images/A/pdo.gif So the webserver which is running on port 20838 is directing URLs starting with /cocoon/ to Cocoon, URLs starting with /xxx/ to whatever is defined in the webserver ...
