Well, you are right, Cocoon needs this.

We have already had a nice discussion on installation requirements for this
on this list.

The fact is that to have a minimal cocoon in the main Cocoon webapp, we need
first to finish the refactoring of the samples.
When that is done, the main sitemap would be only a mount point.

As for having only the pieces of functionality needed, the final solution
will be in Cocoon Blocks, that are still being discussed on the dev list.

In the meantime, you can use the xml-cocoon2\src\webapp\myapp for a basic
Cocoon sitemap example.
