I've recently started using eclipse and have been very impressed. The information it provides helps make sense of what can seem like a rats nest of dependencies. I have brought in avalon and avalon-excalibur as projects alongside cocoon and my own cocoon-based projects which has been very helpful in tracking down information that "crosses the border" between the projects.
All of that would be true with any good IDE, but this one's free and has the added benefit of the sunBow stuff.
