My advice is to choose whether you want lwp/rpc2/rvm from OS packages, or from CVS, and have only one or the other.
NetBSD pkgsrc uses 'buildlink' to constrain builds to only the pkgsrc-specifieed libraries. This is hairy, but does work on Linux and other systems. Unfortunately the coda package is lame/old/broken; I hope to update it some day.
