I haven't had that happen to me here. We currently run a mix of 5.3.11,
5.3.12 and head of the CVS tree. The clients are even more diverse,
ranging from about 5.3.6 to bleeding edge.

Is there anything in the server logs about waiting for a volume lock?
These locks should `time-out' in about 10 minutes, but you never know.
