Same result on W2K after mapprivate=0 and 'venus -init' ... Can I turn on some debugging ?

Normally, when the RVM fails is because mapprivate flag is set to 1. Windows doesn't support private mappings and so it must be set to 0. Did you verify that the venus.conf had "mapprivate=0".
