I'm fairly certain that: A) pylint and pycodestyle (what I assume you are referring to when you say pep8) don't check all of the same things and in fact have some overlap but also each have things they check that the other doesn't
B) have conflicting advice (or used to) where they overlap So, my understanding is that no, you can not use only one linter.
