My hope is that an outcome of the Fiscal Continuity Interest Group
(FCIG) will be an earlier proposal deadline for hosting, 1.5 to 2 years
in advance. If the conference is to remain this big and keep costs
relatively low, organizers need more than 10 or 11 months to sign a
contract for a venue.
So Roy and Columbus people, if you're interested in hosting in 2019, the
proposal deadline *might* be some months before the 2018 conference --
depending on how the FCIG work plays out and how the community responds.

We (a consortium of Columbus, OH organizations) had been considering a
proposal, but this year was not a good year for us and we found out at the
conference that DC was considering a proposal, so we did not pursue a
proposal this year. If there wasn't a good alternative we probably would
have come forward simply to make sure the conference happened, but we would
be more comfortable proposing another year.

Hooray DC!
Are we expecting any other proposals for 2018 code4lib? Anyone else trying
to pull together something?
Either way, any way we folks who just want to see code4lib national
conference happen (+ be as transparent as possible) can help? Maybe there
is some open space to check + add details or ideas for the proposal
building work?
Thanks everyone for your work!
