In addition to reports from the officers, Nancy Lorimer will present “Love from
afar: describing music audio & video recordings in BIBFRAME, the Performed
Music Ontology & beyond.”

Presentation Summary
Linked Data for Performed Music is one of several domain-specific ontology
subprojects of the Mellon-funded Linked Data for Production grant . The project
aims to extend the BIBFRAME ontology to enable semantic description of
performed music resources from wire recordings to streamed audio to music
video. The Performed Music Ontology (PMO) extends and enhances BIBFRAME by
specifying additional classes, properties and vocabularies to cpature the rich
metadata associated with performed music resources.

Using the opera "L'Amour de loin" (Love from afar) by Kaija Saariaho as an
example, I will demonstrate how semantically enabled metadata created using the
Performed Music Ontology--including descriptions of sound & video
recordings--opens up links to related performances, works, and other
information resources about the opera, further enriching the descriptions and
potentially providing a enhanced discovery experience.

Come for the membership, stay for the committee meeting! The CAPC meeting will
also be held at the Hyatt Regency Chicago
