Hi all-

Just a ping to the list about our upcoming, informal, totally rad Code4Lib
Slack's "Spark in the Dark” (#sparkinthedark) talk this week as well as our
new, spectacular book club!

We have a wildly informal, super fun and mad informative call this week,
Thursday, March 1 at 4 PM Eastern / 1 PM Pacific, by Graham Hukill and Cole
Hudson of Wayne State University. The will talk about "Combine", a metadata
aggregator and analysis tool for DPLA-bound records, that uses Spark for
processing from a Django app via Apache Livy.

Additionally, we have started a book club for Spark in the Dark. Our first
session is 2pm eastern / 11 am Pacific this Friday, March 2nd. We are reading
“Designing Data Intensive Applications” by Martin Kleppmann
(https://dataintensive.net/). We are starting by just reading Chapter 1 for
this Friday. We’ll be setting the reading schedule and frequency during this
first meeting as well.

You can join either the code call or the bookclub at this Zoom link, if you’re
interested: https://stanford.zoom.us/j/4167209074.

And if you haven’t yet, join us on our Code4Lib slack channel, #sparkinthedark.

Thanks!
C
