I am a librarian at Oregon Health & Science University and I code a bit. My
undergrad degree is in Computer Engineering and I worked in the software
industry in various roles (software testing, technical writing/editing, content
management… not very coding-oriented roles) for the better part of a decade
before I pursued my library degree, and it took me a few years to land a role
in a library after I completed it – OHSU is the first library I’ve worked at,
though I did have some librarianlike roles in the software companies I’ve
worked at. Both my current and previous role is focused on ontologies/semantic
web/linked data, which I feel sets me apart from my colleagues more than my
coding skills do. I’m also not very involved or experienced with traditional
library technologies or metadata schemas.
