THE DEPARTMENT: 
The Digital Services and Technology (DS&T) department is the core of the 
University Library technological infrastructure and exists to support and 
enhance key systems used by library employees, campus faculty, and students. 
Some elements of DS&T include adapting library technologies to the 
ever-changing academic library environment, developing tools and systems that 
are user-centered and ensure student success, empowering the department staff 
in the realm of professional growth, leading the University Library into bold 
technological growth, and maintaining flexible and appropriate technologies, 
data and workflows. Within these arenas DS& T is in charge of maintenance 
of the unified library management system (ULMS), Cal Poly Pomona's 
institutional repository (Bronco Scholar), the University Library web site, the 
digital signage and room reservation systems, as well as acting as the bridge 
between the library and campus IT. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
The Library Applications Coordinator administers and coordinates daily 
operations of the Ex Libris Unified Library Management System (ULMS), works 
with library staff to determine system needs and common maintenance tasks, 
troubleshoots functionality issues, interprets/resolves user problems, 
customizes the Alma interface as well as assists (along with the department web 
information technology consultant) in the customization of the Primo discovery 
interface, and determines user roles as necessary. The employee coordinates and 
keeps up to date about ULMS upgrades and updates, submits trouble/service 
tickets and keeps abreast of new functionalities offered by Ex Libris and the 
CSU System community. The incumbent maintains a current knowledge of 
technological trends and activities as they relate to Ex Libris Alma/Primo, and 
other third-party products that may integrate well with the system. They also 
train library staff on how to navigate the ULMS, as well as offer guidance on 
how to approach workflows within the system. Additionally, they perform some ad 
hoc scripting and data migration tasks to support data management and 
automation of workflows. The incumbent maintains website access points for all 
available databases; troubleshoots and resolves patron issues with database 
access and sets up and maintains database remote access. The employee acts as a 
technical consultant on internal committees such as the Library Web Team and 
groups related to Technical Services and contributes to greater CSU 
discussions. Lastly, the employee performs other duties and assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, 
Information Systems, Telecommunications, Engineering, Engineering Technology or 
a related field OR four years relevant full-time experience OR and associate 
degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Systems, 
Telecommunications, Engineering, Engineering Technology or a related field with 
two years of relevant full-time experience. Basic knowledge of specialty work 
area demonstrated by an understanding and use of general principals and 
terminology; demonstrates understanding of the standard technology and systems 
in place with the capability of supporting and operating this technology; 
recognizes problems, identifies possible causes and refers to appropriate party 
for resolution; ability to solve problems where precedents exist, and acquire 
knowledge in related specialties; demonstrates competence to work as a team 
member; and ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 
Experience with managing and administering Ex Libris library systems; 
experience in database development/management, and web design and experience in 
gathering, curating and analyzing database on library usage as well as 
system/user needs is desired. Demonstrated experience with planning and 
implementing technical projects; demonstrated communication skills and 
experience working in a team-based environment; strong organizational and 
project management skills; ability to communicate effectively in both technical 
and non-technical environments; ability to work under deadlines alongside 
various stakeholders and end users and ability to coordinate and prioritize 
multiple critical projects is preferred.
