Position Summary:

Analyze, create, enrich and transform metadata in MARC and non-MARC formats.  
Promote and inform constituencies on metadata standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Metadata Management:  Create, revise, enrich, and adapt high quality 
descriptive, administrative, and technical metadata in both MARC and non-MARC 
formats for physical, digitized, and born-digital resources at the item- and 
collection-levels. Utilize technologies and tools, such as bulk editing, 
automation techniques, and programmatic methods, to create, remediate, enrich, 
and transform metadata, often in collaboration with other departments.  

Training and Support: Work collaboratively with metadata and catalog 
librarians, archivists, programmers, IT staff, and faculty to implement and 
promote metadata standards and services.  Offer workshops and instruction to 
library staff, faculty and students on metadata standards and participate on 
Five College committees.  Maintain expertise with metadata standards and 
digital technologies and monitor trends in metadata services. Advise the 
department staff of key technological developments in the field and 
participates in national, regional, and local collaborative programs.

Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience: Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program; 1 to 3 
years of relevant professional library experience; or an equivalent combination 
of education and experience.

Skills:  Strong organization, problem solving, and communication skills; 
ability to work independently and as a member of a team; ability to apply 
complex procedures and to organize and prioritize work effectively; attention 
to detail. Familiarity with current metadata standards, such as BIBFRAME, RDA, 
Dublin Core, EAD, MODS, METS, RDF and other emerging data standards.
