Senior Digital Library Software Engineer

Position Overview

Library Technology Services is seeking a senior software engineer to assist in 
the building of modern web systems for our digital library solutions. The ideal 
candidate will have skills in Angular, JavaScript, HTML and CSS to build modern 
web interfaces for our digital library solutions. The ability to quickly 
prototype both frontend and backend systems is a must. Working closely with our 
UI specialist to ensure conformance to library standards and accessibility 
requirements, will be part of ensuring that work meets organizational 
requirements. The expectation is that this individual will have strong 
communication skills, the ability to design sites quickly and build prototypes 
rapidly to be reviewed during agile meetings and is able to work independently 
with little direction.


Principal Duties And Responsibilities

* Building web user interfaces using Angular, JavaScript, HTML and CSS
* Developing core digital library software using the J2EE software stack
* Working collaboratively with a team of developers, business analysts, and 
library experts on projects to define solutions for design and implementation.
* Building web-based solutions that can provide the interface for depositing, 
managing, and delivering digital objects and their metadata into and from the 
Library's Digital Repository Service (DRS).
* Sharing knowledge and documentation on the use of Angular and other 
JavaScript based frameworks.
* Willing to provide quick learning sessions on web design and implementation 
to other developers


Basic Qualifications

* BA and 3-5 years of related experience.
* 3+ years of experience in development of responsive web front ends that are 
accessible using JavaScript, AJAX, jQuery and/or CSS.
* 2+ years of relevant professional experience in java software development 
including J2EE in Linux development and operating environments.


Additional Qualifications

* Familiarity with WAI-ARIA standards and practices.
* Experience in database and XML programming, using JDBC or hibernate, and XSLT.
* Experience in developing and using REST web services.
* Experience planning and executing complex software development projects, 
including Junit testing.
* Functional and technical understanding of digital library systems and the 
operation of research libraries.
* Demonstrated ability to take initiative and successfully complete development 
projects; experience in agile team development practices.
* Experience in configuring productive development tools, such as automated 
build systems, automated unit test frameworks.
