The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), in Monterey California, is seeking
outstanding candidates for our University Librarian (UL) position. NPS seeks
an innovative, energetic, and proven library administrator who will capitalize
on the experience and strengths of her/his team, which is comprised of Dudley
Knox Library, Graduate Writing Center (GWC), and the Thesis Processing Office
(TPO) (collectively "the Library"). In partnership with NPS faculty, students,
and staff, the UL will advance and support graduate-level teaching, learning,
and research in our unique academic environment. This non-tenure track

Dean, is a member of NPS' senior leadership team and will provide visionary
leadership that enhances the Library's programs, value, and role at the
university. The successful candidate will be a creative problem solver with
effective communication skills who has the insight, motivation, and energy to
be an advocate for the Library teams while collaborating with institutional and
external stakeholders.
As the chief administrative officer of the Library, the UL is responsible for
formulating and implementing policies, programs, services, and associated
technologies that support NPS resident and distributed instructional and
research programs. The UL articulates the Library's contributions to effective
teaching and learning as an integral part of the NPS Teaching and Learning
Commons. The UL will guide the Library teams with a continued focus on
improving discovery and access to internal and licensed information resources
and will partner with faculty and students on critical thinking, effective
communications, data analytics and visualization, and data management. The
successful candidate will bring extensive knowledge of academic research
resources, information infrastructure (including technologies for users),
trends in effective written and spoken scholarly communications, digital
collections, institutional repositories, and best practices for metadata. The
UL should have a clear understanding of current and possible future trends in
academic and research libraries and be able to leverage technological
innovations in order to advance the library and NPS mission. The UL must have
experience managing a complex budget and be able to direct the Library's
financial and other resources by setting clear priorities.
