IIIFers, Code4Lib,

In the next month, many libraries associated with Google Books and Hathi Trust
will be gathering for wide ranging discussions; IIIF compatibility is likely to
be a hot topic. To help prepare for these discussions, it would be useful to
hear from the IIIF community about its experiences and desiderata for IIIF
support around these book corpora:

  * Are you interested in IIIF with Google Books or Hathi Trust?
  * Have you already done IIIF-related work to leverage either corpus, or
another trove of digitized books?
  * If Hathi or Google Book Search were to add IIIF support, what functions
would be at the top of your priority list, and why?

If you could reply with your thoughts—on or off list—it may be of great use to
inform enhancement requests to Google, Hathi, or the many partner libraries
with scanned books.

Below are some thoughts that may help prime the pump for input:

- would you be interested in access to the HT / GBS corpus via IIIF
- for local delivery application, such as IA Bookreader, UV or Mirador?
- for smart delivery of images, such as a thumbnail viewer in your catalog, or
to embed HT / GBS books in a web page or blog?
- for “search within” a book via a the IIIF content search API?
- for text mining or AI / computer vision of page images?
- to enable citation or annotation of individual page scans?
- to unify delivery of your locally scanned collections with HT or GBS
materials via a common API?
- for something completely different?!?
- do you have outstanding enhancement requests or a wishlist to HT or GBS
related to IIIF?
- have you modeled Google Books or Hathi data structures as IIIF presentation
or annotations data?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts,

- Tom
