Philadelphia Museum of Art is seeking a Project Manager for a 3 year planning 
grant-funded project called the Art Information Commons.

The goal of this project is to support broad-based cultural heritage education 
and scholarship through holistic management of our collections-related data. 
Some expected outcomes include:

increase efficiency in data management
increase access to the full range of art information resources stewarded by the 
Museum for both internal and external researchers
define how information about individual works of art in the collection can be 
linked to related contextual information—i.e. archival materials, bibliographic 
references, exhibition histories, provenance records, conservation records, 
interpretive content, curatorial research files, non-object images such as 
exhibition photography
lay the groundwork for sharing collections data with other cultural 
institutions adopting a linked open data approach.

How You Will Contribute 

An innovative and passionate Project Manager who will work closely with the 
Arcadia Director of the Library and Archives and stakeholders across the 
museum, this position sustains the work and all workflows associated with 
planning the Art Information Commons. Project outcomes are to increase 
institution-wide efficiency in data management, provide access to the full 
range of art information resources stewarded by the Museum for both internal 
and external researchers, and to lay the groundwork for sharing collections 
data with other cultural institutions by adopting a linked data approach.

Specifically, you will:

Be responsible for day-to-day operational aspects of the project’s scope, 
implementation, and budget
Work with developer, taxonomist, consultant, Museum staff, and external 
advisory board to set goals and remove impediments
Develop project plans; work with stakeholders to revise plans as needed
Communicate relevant project information with internal staff, management and 
executive teams
Write and edit project documentation, reports, and present at various venues on 
behalf of the project to internal and external audiences
Develop and support an ongoing series of cross-departmental training 
opportunities and staff dialogue with advisors
Coordinate with appropriate project staff in setting up Advisory Board 
meetings, symposia, workshops, and Task Force meetings
Help develop recommendations to enhance digital workflows and sharing and 
creation of scholarly content
Build understanding and involvement across the Museum’s staff on the potential 
benefits and emerging best practices related to linked open data, the 
integration of collections information systems, metadata creation and 
management, and digital publishing

Your diverse background includes:

Clearly communicate technical topics to audiences of all levels of technical 
expertise
Ability to approach new challenges with resourcefulness, humility, and curiosity
Experience managing or mentoring disparate groups of colleagues in how to work 
together to complete great projects
Experience with change management for ensuring smooth transitions in 
organizational culture
Excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on training, rapport-building, 
listening and meaningful questioning
Strong writing skills
Experience managing complex projects or programs with multiple dependencies and 
occasional conflicting priorities
Demonstrable meticulous attention to detail
Willingness to develop (or already have) a knowledge of technology and 
information management concepts such as programming and web publishing 
languages, metadata, data formats (JSON, XML, etc.), and APIs
General understanding of museum and library databases, classifications, 
systems, and linked (open) data
