Archivist/Special Collections Librarian Albion College invites applications for the position of Archivist/Special Collections Librarian (hereinafter referred to as the Archivist). The Archivist is responsible for the administration of the Albion College Archives and Special Collections, including management of the college’s rare books collection, and the appraisal, arrangement, description, and preservation of archival records, manuscripts, and historical materials relating to the history and function of Albion College, its faculty, staff, administration, and students. The Archivist is also responsible to the Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church Commission on Archives and History for management and oversight of Methodist Archives. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload with sensitivity and confidentiality. Must exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of many social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial and ethnic backgrounds. Qualifications: Master’s degree in Library Science with an emphasis in archives, manuscript curation or related fields. Preferred qualifications include experience in managing varied historical collections in archives, museums, or other historical agencies; familiarity with archival data management systems, DACS, EAD, and relevant metadata standards; familiarity with software related to digital repositories; a strong background and ability to instruct in historical research methodologies using primary sources; and demonstrated skills in oral and written communication. Familiarity with rare book collections and best practices in preservation of historical materials is desirable.
