The Getty Research Institute is seeking a Research Associate II to work primarily on two digital scholarly projects: the Getty Research Portal, overseen by the GRI Library, and the Ed Ruscha Streets of Los Angeles project, overseen by the GRI Digital Art History department. This position will coordinate research activities related to both the Portal and to the Streets of Los Angeles project, including assistance in administration of workshops or collaborative projects. The position will also communicate with technical teams (imaging, software development) to offer insight from the researcher’s perspective, to identify new opportunities for project enhancement, and contribute to the design of workflows related to metadata creation and management. The Research Associate II will assess ways to highlight the Portal’s online offerings, emphasizing the content and data that the project makes available to scholars, as well as to coordinate integrating the Portal with other research projects and databases within the Getty and externally. As these digital projects develop and new ones arise, there may be further opportunities to contribute to digital initiatives at the Getty Research Institute. This position is limited-term, running through June 2020. Major Job Responsibilities Coordinates internal and external research activities for the Streets of Los Angeles project, including serving as the primary point of contact for external researchers conducting research using digitized materials Coordinates activities related to the development of a digital publication proposal for the Streets of Los Angeles project Assists in providing support to Portal contributors through performing initial review of new records, reporting quarterly usage statistics to ongoing contributors Investigates opportunities for new external, collaborative projects for the Portal Contributes to user research activities and their integration in software development processes Liaises with the technical teams and other Getty departments on the workflows related to metadata creation and management Provides input on areas where digital art history tools and methods can be integrated into workflows and outcomes for the Portal and the Ruscha project Develops knowledge of current and emerging methods and tools in art history and the digital humanities to identify new opportunities for advancement of the Portal and to support the Ruscha project research component Assists in conceptualizing and organizing workshops for both the Portal and Streets of Los Angeles project Ability to generate and maintain project documentation and information resources Qualifications Master’s degree in art history and/or library and information science OR Ph.D. 0-2 years of experience in academic setting, research institute, or art museum (education may be considered) Reading knowledge of at least one foreign language Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrated ability to build relationships, collaborate and direct teams across disciplines Advanced research, writing, and editorial skills Ability to set and meet deadlines for oneself Familiarity with assessing and analyzing metadata, working with metadata, and metadata standards and practices for libraries, archives, and researchers Familiarity with digital humanities tools and approaches, including data visualization tools Familiarity with programming languages, especially Python, is preferred ---- Brought to you by code4lib jobs: https://jobs.code4lib.org/jobs/33490-research-associate-ii
