Hamilton College and its Library and Information Technology Services (LITS) 
division are trailblazers in supporting teaching, learning and faculty/student 
scholarship. In addition to the support provided for traditional library and IT 
services, LITS staff are actively engaged in efforts to support digital 
scholarship in innovative ways, including the campus wide Digital Hamilton 
strategic initiative. We are a member of national and regional consortia

of Liberal Arts Colleges, and the Council on Library and Information Resources.

We seek a collaborative, creative, strategic thinker to join LITS in the role 
of Web Developer for Digital Scholarship and Digital Collections. Reporting to 
the Associate Director, Metadata and Digital Initiatives, the incumbent will 
work independently and in consultation with colleagues in LITS to provide web 
development, technical support, and maintenance that will enhance teaching and 
scholarly work at Hamilton College.

Skills/Requirements


Thorough knowledge of, and experience with Web technologies.


Expertise with content management systems such as Drupal.


The ability to successfully manage multiple priorities.


Above average customer service skills as well as verbal and written 
communication skills.


Able to communicate technical information (both written and verbally) to 
technical and non-technical people in a supportive and meaningful way.


Must embrace learning and working with constantly changing technology.  


Work collaboratively within our team, the department, and across the college.


Demonstrated commitment to building and supporting diversity.


Responsibilities include:


Performs Web and mobile application and interface programming in Drupal, 
standards-compliant HTML 5, CSS, SQL, JavaScript/AJAX, PHP, and other 
development tools as needed.


Provides high level user support for existing Digital Scholarship and Digital 
Collections Web applications.



Work in collaboration with faculty to implement new Web based academic 
projects.  Integral to this responsibility:



perform needs assessments


define project requirements and corresponding timelines for project completion


develop applications/solutions to support project completion


ensures adherence to stated timelines, taking follow-up action as necessary


report on progress of project to all necessary parties




Builds interfaces with other college information systems for the efficient 
sharing of information and transfer between these systems and Web applications.


Collaboratively and independently evaluates and supports third party, including 
cloud, tools for use in Digital Scholarship and Digital Collections.


Manages programming/integration projects at a tactical level, including 
utilization of student assistants/interns to complete tasks and periodically 
serving as project lead.



Other duties



In cooperation with Network Services, maintains a stable and reliable hardware 
and software environment for the Digital Scholarship and Digital Collections 
Web presence 


Keeps abreast of new Web and other information systems technologies; make 
periodic recommendations for Metadata and Digital Strategies Unit and campus 
initiatives  


Prepares documentation of workflow procedures and systems to assure continuity 
of operations, including system restarts  


Recommend and implement appropriate assessment methods


Participate in cross-team, cross-departmental, and consortial efforts as a 
representative of Metadata and Digital Strategies


Work closely with members of Business Intelligence and Web Services to ensure 
that initiatives, projects, and technology align with College policy


Serve on department, campus, and consortial committees
