Description

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Library seeks an innovative, 
service-oriented and collaborative information professional to join its 
headquarters-based Library in Washington D.C. The IMF Library is part of 
Library Network that serves the information and data needs of clients in the 
IMF and the World Bank Group.

The ideal candidate’s primary responsibility includes the day-to-day 
monitoring, maintenance and ongoing support of the Integrated Library System 
(ILS), Alma/Primo and other related tools and applications. He/She will 
facilitate search, discovery, and delivery of library services and resources 
across different platforms and formats.

The Systems Librarian is a member of the Library Operations team which is also 
responsible for troubleshooting client issues, managing the Library Network’s 
website by developing enterprise library applications, metadata creation, 
taxonomy management and indexing Executive Board Documents. Additional teams in 
the Library include the Content Development and the Client Services teams. The 
Content Development team is responsible for negotiating and licensing resources 
procured by the Library. The Client Services team is responsible for client 
interactions, including answering research and reference questions, training, 
document delivery, interlibrary loan and managing the physical space. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


Administers and configures the ILS (Alma/Primo), supporting a variety of 
services including circulation, cataloging, acquisitions, serials, electronic 
resources, data reporting, and public access. Troubleshoots, develops new 
system capabilities, and makes improvements to ensure best practices and 
operational efficiencies.


Proactively explores new technologies to identify opportunities to improve 
library services platform support, accessibility and administration, including 
the potential integration with other enterprise wide systems utilizing 
available APIs, web services, authentication, etc.


Provides written documentation and related training on library systems, 
services, and related applications.


Serves as technical liaison with the ILS vendor, Ex Libris, and works closely 
with the Fund and World Bank Group Information Technology Departments and other 
third-party vendors.


Facilitates analytic reporting from various systems and uses a variety of 
software tools for the extraction, manipulation, and visualization of data for 
use by various systems, prepares reports and statistical data to assist the 
Library in maximizing data-driven decision making.


Collaborates with library staff and other departments on technology-related 
services and projects, promotes the use of emerging technologies and supports 
institution wide initiatives.


Responds to World Bank Group, IMF and Library Network staff's inquiries on the 
Library Systems Support Helpdesk, troubleshoots problems and follows up with 
vendor support staff when needed.


Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Educational development, typically acquired by the completion of an advanced 
university degree, or equivalent, in library or information science, or a 
related field; or a university degree, or equivalent, supplemented by a minimum 
of six years of relevant professional experience. 

In addition to the qualifications above, the ideal candidate should have the 
following: 


A minimum of three years progressive experience supporting, managing or 
troubleshooting library automation systems; experience with the Alma/Primo by 
Ex Libris, Inc. preferred. 


Knowledge of principles and practices of library operations, issues, and trends.


Familiarity with current library metadata formats and evolving standards (MARC, 
RDA, Linked Data, Dublin Core, METS, MODs).


Understanding of current access services protocols to access and retrieve 
digital content (e.g. Z39.50, proxy, Open URL, DOI, CrossRef, OAI).


Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavasScript/JQuery.


Experience with reporting tools for data analysis, visualization, and 
dissemination.


Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, ability to 
communicate technical information to clients at all levels.


Strong analytical skills: identifies problems and potential areas for 
improvement; utilizes available information sources in decision-making; 
develops feasible, realistic solutions to problems.


Demonstrated project management skills: ability to manage, implement, and 
assess projects.


Ability to work in a fast-paced multi-cultural environment with emphasis on 
meeting client needs and deadlines. 


Preferred Skills

Working knowledge of one or more structured programming languages (Python, PHP, 
etc.).
Experience with data visualization products (Tableau, Microsoft Power Bi, etc.).
Experience with XML, XSLT, and/or web-based APls, preferred.
Ability to adapt and learn new technologies quickly, as well as to effectively 
interact with others who possess a range of technological backgrounds.
