The UConn Library seeks a highly collaborative Head for the reimagined Digital 
Infrastructure Services (DIS) unit. The Head of Digital Infrastructure Services 
reports to the Associate Dean and will provide creative, collaborative, and 
forward-looking leadership for innovative technology services in the UConn 
Library. The successful candidate will proactively assess, develop, and manage 
technologies that support the University’s various communities of users. They 
will work with content and service experts to create an integrated information 
environment by developing and extending the Library’s technology resources in 
support of faculty and student teaching, learning, research, and scholarship.

Candidates must understand the broad landscape of trends in information 
technology and libraries, and must have a demonstrated track record of 
successful project management and implementation of technologies and services. 
The Head of DIS leads a unit poised for new growth that will focus on providing 
high-quality, robust, and interoperable systems that facilitate discovery, 
preservation, and the delivery of library services and resources to the entire 
University and, in some cases, to the State of Connecticut. This will include 
communicating and collaborating across stakeholders, contributing to digital 
strategies, and advancing collective capacities.  

A highly collaborative leader, the Head of DIS contributes to the development 
of a compelling vision for how digital technology can strengthen existing 
workflows for collections management; contribute to outstanding digital 
scholarship; support resource acquisition and discovery; expose scholarship 
through an outstanding repository platform; and promote the UConn Library 
programs, services, and expert staff through a state-of-the-art, user-centered, 
and accessible website aligned with University web standards.

The Head of DIS supervises three full time staff members and contributes to the 
advancement of the unit and the UConn Library through collaboration and 
engagement with Library-wide initiatives.  Along with all UConn Library 
personnel, the successful candidate makes a positive contribution to a culture 
of inclusion and respect in all interactions within the Library and across the 
University and exemplifies the UConn Library values of kindness and trust, 
curiosity and inquiry, equity and inclusion, and having fun.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITITES

Coordinates and collaborates with partners in the Library, University IT, and 
other campus units to ensure that the Library’s digital infrastructure and 
services are aligned with the University’s technology strategies and 
infrastructure; meets accepted and emerging security and access protocols; and 
is responsive to the needs of students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders.
Responsible for setting strategic goals, allocating resources, and overseeing 
the successful implementation, maintenance, refreshment, and integration of the 
Library’s information technology program, which includes on premise, locally 
hosted, and vendor hosted enterprise services.
Provides high level oversight for the continuous operation of the Library’s 
website, digital repository, and other locally hosted web services, and works 
closely with Library and University stakeholders to manage hosted applications, 
such as library services platform Alma, discovery platform Primo, ILLIAD 
interlibrary loan software, and customized applications for resource discovery, 
archives content management, course reserves, interlibrary loan, and document 
lending.
Directs, plans, and communicates Digital Infrastructure Services unit efforts. 
Determines priorities in alignment with Library priorities and services and 
ensures coordination and alignment of individual and unit goals. 
Engages in product, user, and service assessments and ensures that statistics 
and other data relevant to the goals and work of the unit is accurate and 
timely.
Serves as primary resource for other operating units, University offices, 
academic departments, and outside agencies regarding Library Digital 
Infrastructure services and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Systems, or 
related field.
Minimum of five years’ professional experience working with library systems and 
digital library development with evidence of broad, in-depth technology and 
systems knowledge and skills.
Minimum of two continuous years demonstrated supervisory experience, including 
proven team success and progressive leadership and management responsibilities.
Demonstrated commitment to a data driven approach to continuous assessment and 
improvement of programs and services.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
Direct experience with integrated library systems and related search and 
discovery products (such as Ex Libris, Alma, Primo) and digital repositories 
(such as Fedora, Islandora) and demonstrated understanding of the ongoing 
development of such systems and of emerging library systems and digital 
preservation technologies.
Demonstrated knowledge of accessibility standards and current best practices in 
information delivery.
Evidence of ability to articulate a system perspective for a multi-library 
campus and effectively implement a collaboratively-developed vision for library 
technology in a research library environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s Degree in Library Science, Computer Sciences, Information Technology 
or Systems, or related field.
Demonstrated experience with the implementation and maintenance of open source 
applications.
Minimum of two years’ experience working in WordPress environments.
Demonstrated success with project management.
Demonstrated working knowledge of Google Analytics.
