We seek a creative and dynamic professional to join the Texas A&M 
University Libraries as Data Management Librarian. We are hiring one individual 
for a full-time, tenure-track/tenured position with an 11-month academic 
appointment beginning Summer or Fall 2020. Applicants will be considered for 
the faculty titles of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor 
depending on qualifications.

Reporting to the Dean through the Director of Research Data Management 
Services, The Data Management Librarian will advance the Libraries efforts to 
support the research data needs of a diverse community of scholars at a 
vibrant, land-, sea-, and space-grant institution. The successful candidate 
will join a new team of individuals who value collaborations and creative 
solutions that increase research productivity and impact throughout the 
research data lifecycle. With support from the members of the Research Data 
Management Services team and our stakeholders, the incumbent will implement 
systemic programs that couple outreach, education, tools, and policies to 
enable innovative modes of scholarship at Texas A&M University. Under the 
guidance of the Director, the Data Management Librarian:

●        Collaborates with the Research Data Management Services team and other 
stakeholders in the Libraries and on campus to develop and provide data 
management services.

●        Partners with researchers to evaluate data planning needs and assess 
options for sharing data.

●        Delivers data management instruction both in-person and online.

●        Creates and maintains learning materials describing guidelines, best 
practices, and services.

●        Consults with Texas Digital Libraries partners to advance the 
capability and use of the Texas Data Repository. 

●        Supports Libraries and TAMU diversity initiatives.

●        Engages in research, publication, and professional service as required 
of tenure-track/tenured faculty.

This is a tenure-track academic appointment carrying full faculty status and 
responsibilities include engaging in research activities leading to 
publications and national service to meet both the Libraries’ and the 
University’s requirements for tenure and promotion.

Required Qualifications:

●        American Library Association (ALA)-accredited Master’s degree (or 
international equivalent), or a terminal degree in a science or social science 
field

●        Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service

●        Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative and 
culturally diverse environment       

●        Demonstrated interpersonal and teamwork skills complemented by the 
ability to take initiative

●        Understanding of metadata standards in a research data context

●        Experience with data documentation practices

●        Strong technical skills and problem-solving abilities related to data 
management and curation software

●        Excellent oral and written communication skills        

Desired Qualifications:

●        Formal coursework in a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, 
agriculture, or mathematics) field of study or data science

●        Experience with data repository platforms, such as Dataverse or DSpace

●        Experience in developing and delivering instruction in an academic 
setting

●        Knowledge of scripting languages used with data-intensive research, 
such as R or Python

●        Grant writing experience

Salary/Benefits/Rank: Faculty rank and salary are commensurate with 
qualifications and experience; minimum starting salary will be $50,500. 
Excellent benefits include health plan and paid life insurance; several 
retirement plans including TIAA; paid holidays; no state or local income tax. 
Funding is provided for professional travel and development activities.
