ZBW - Leibniz Information Centre for Economics (www.zbw.eu) is a research-based 
information infrastructure for economics and is a member of the Leibniz 
Association. The institution is one of the largest of its kind in the world and 
accommodates more than 4 million media units. It also provides access to 
approximately 2.2 million digital full texts. The ZBW is scientifically 
affiliated to the university of Kiel, Cristian Albrecht University (CAU).

The ZBW conducts its own application-oriented research in computer science and 
information sciences with a focus on Open Science. It has its own department 
for software development, which carries out application-oriented and partly 
research-driven software development in the field of information systems and 
digital libraries. Its range of services includes the conception, development 
and support of classical library applications such as repositories and subject 
portals, of infrastructures for metadata management or long-term archiving, and 
finally of data infrastructures and applications for the Semantic Web. Our 
portfolio also includes the provision of research and publishing platforms, 
such as the EconBiz subject portal or the EconStor Open Access publication 
server.

At our Kiel or Hamburg location, we are looking for you to join our "Innovative 
Information Systems and Publishing Technologies" department at the earliest 
opportunity, but at the latest on October 1st, as

Scientific software developer (m/f/d)
for the research-based development of semi-automated information assistants.

Salary is based on EG 13 TV-L (full-time, currently 38.7 hours/week). According 
to § 2 of the federal law of Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG), the 
position is initially limited for a period of four years and offers the 
possibility of gaining a doctorate degree in one of the fields mentioned below.

Your tasks...

Conception, software development and testing of semi-automated information 
services with the help of existing knowledge bases as well as AI-based chatbots 
and language assistants.
Data protection compliant integration with Smartphone and Smarthome 
applications, which should help to integrate https://econbiz.eu as an economic 
information platform into the everyday environments of our users.
Development and testing of recommender systems on the basis of (anonymised) 
user profiles, content relations or related search queries.
Although the planned developments will be partly experimental in character, the 
link back to the information systems of the ZBW has to be guaranteed at all 
times.

 Your profile...

a university degree, i.e. a Master's (Uni or FH) or Diploma (Uni) degree in 
computer science, information technology or a related technical discipline with 
a focus on software development,
 knowledge, experience or proven interests in chatbot architectures or at least 
one corresponding technology (text/speech recognition, NLP, ML/DL, knowledge 
databases, Q&A databases),
ability to work in a team and to cooperate, and above all the communicative, 
interdisciplinary and intercultural competence as well as the willingness to 
engage with various participants and interest groups,
good knowledge of written and spoken German or fluent speaking and writing in 
English.

Even better, but not mandatory, if you have…

knowledge of chatbot and/or virtual assistant applications and pilots in a 
library’s context,
knowledge and experience in developing recommender systems,
basic understanding of library applications and library information systems, as 
well as of workflows in a scientific library,
experience in software management and in the continuous integration of new or 
further developed components into operation, as well as in the automatization 
of build and deployment processes for updates,
experience in collaborative software development and source code management, 
e.g. git-based; experience in software documentation,
basic interest in data protection, privacy issues and information rights,
willingness to report continuously on development work and results in suitable 
media or at community events such as workshops or conferences.

The readiness for occasional daily business trips to / from the other ZBW 
location and for business trips in general is expected.
