UC San Diego Library is seeking creative, strategic and collaborative 
applicants for the position of Associate University Librarian, Learning and 
User Experience (AUL, LUE). Reporting directly to the University Librarian and 
working with a team of senior leaders, program directors and staff, this role 
is charged with providing leadership for the Library’s and of the University’s 
vision to be a student-centered, research-focused, service-oriented public 
university. The successful candidate will be a leader for connecting Library 
strategic priorities with campus initiatives and possess expertise in learning 
support and design of physical, service, and digital user experiences for the 
Library’s academic support mission. Ideal candidates bring a commitment to 
advancing equity, diversity and inclusion across the Library and University.

The AUL, LUE leads the Library’s strategic priorities to support student and 
faculty success in learning and research at UC San Diego and to advance digital 
and physical Library experiences/spaces as a destination for scholarship and 
the academic community. The AUL, LUE is a leader of and participant in the 
Library’s matrixed advisory structure which supports cross-program and 
library-wide communication, collaboration and initiatives. Working closely with 
senior Library and campus leaders, the AUL, LUE leads the design and delivery 
of physical and digital user services, learning services and academic 
engagement with campus departments and divisions. Additionally, the AUL, LUE 
has an active role in strategic planning and development activities across the 
Library and coordinates with other UC San Diego offices focused on learning, 
research and the student and faculty experience.

Working with a team of program directors, the AUL, LUE is responsible for 
leading the design and implementation of physical and digital user 
services/experiences in support of student and faculty success, fostering 
information literacy across the Library and UC San Diego campus and ensuring 
that the Library serves the academic divisions and departments across campus. 
Through these efforts, the AUL, LUE will support Library strategic priorities 
including student and faculty success, research and learning support, a place 
for community, and extension of the impact of research at UC San Diego.

The AUL, LUE will lead and support three programs: (1) Academic Engagement and 
Learning Services, (2) Spaces, Lending & Access, and (3) Technology and 
Digital Experience. Through collaboration across the Library, UC San Diego and 
the UC system and through direct leadership of programs focused on support of 
student and faculty success, the AUL will position the Library as a campus 
partner in supporting all stages of the academic experience and advancing 
University goals. The AUL will have an opportunity to lead new and restructured 
Library programs and foster connections across programs that will build a 
coherent suite of information public services and a flexible, responsive 
framework for continuous adaptation to user needs.
