The University of Toronto Libraries (UTL) system is the largest academic 
library in Canada and is fourth among peer institutions in North America, 
behind just Harvard, Yale and Columbia. The system consists of 42 libraries 
located on three university campuses: St. George, Mississauga, and Scarborough. 
This array of college libraries, special collections, and specialized libraries 
and information centers supports the teaching and research requirements of 300 
graduate programs, over 70 professional programs, and more than 700 
undergraduate degree programs. More than 150,000 new print volumes are acquired 
each year. The Libraries data centre houses more than 600 servers with a 
storage capacity of 1.5 petabytes.

About the University of Toronto Scarborough Library

The University of Toronto Scarborough is a growing campus on the eastern edge 
of Scarborough with over 13,000 full and part-time undergraduate students and a 
growing graduate student body. The UTSC Library is integrated into the UTL 
system but operates independently, developing its own services and programs. We 
value creativity, innovation, and enthusiasm for developing meaningful 
experiences for our students and faculty.

The Opportunity

Data & Digital Collections Librarian. Reporting to the Coordinator, Digital 
Scholarship Unit, the successful candidate will contribute to diverse, 
collaborative teams for the design, development, and delivery of innovative and 
forward-thinking projects and service offerings.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on other projects as 
capacity and interest allows, including working directly with the liaison 
librarian program.Librarians as the UTSC Library also frequently collaborate 
with colleagues across the tri-campus on shared committees and projects, as 
well as to share knowledge and experiences.

Required Qualifications

A degree from an accredited Master’s level program in library and information 
studies/science.
Demonstrated knowledge regarding finding and using diverse published data 
sources and statistics.
Knowledge of diverse metadata/cataloging/archival descriptive standards and 
controlled vocabularies, metadata harvesting and crosswalks, as well as 
ontologies.
Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies independently.

Demonstrated, strong analytical and organizational skills.
Demonstrated capacity for working in a diverse, fast-paced, results-oriented, 
and dynamic environment,
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in diverse teams.
Knowledge regarding teaching principles and practices, particularly as they 
relate to data & digital scholarship related topics.
Strong written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with reference services and instruction related to Data and Digital 
Scholarship.
Knowledge of statistical methods and software (including experience with one or 
more statistics applications (such as Nvivo, R-Studio, SPSS, SAS).
Experience developing and cross-walking metadata for Digital Collections.
Experience supervising or working with students.
Experience with content/digital asset management systems and repositories 
(Islandora/Drupal/Fedora preferred).
Experience working with software developers and systems administrators.
Relevant experience as an academic librarian.
