Introduction

related to research software curation and archiving in a collaborative 
environment? The Division of Libraries at New York University is looking for 
you! Software plays a foundational role in modern scholarship, and requires 
specialized curation processes to preserve and make available for reuse. 
Opportunities abound for libraries and archives to lead practices and 
possibilities around selecting, acquiring, describing, documenting, preserving, 
and publishing software as a key part of the scholarly record.

The Software Curation Specialist will lead efforts in hands-on curation of 
research software, as well as contribute to outreach and educational efforts 
around software preservation. The Software Curation Specialist will provide 
research software curation services to the NYU community. In addition, the 
Software Curation Specialist will be a key member of the Collaborating on 
Software Archiving for Institutions project, providing key insights and testing 
of an open-source suite of software preservation tools.

Salary/Benefits
Telecommuting is possible for this position. Attractive benefits package 
including generous time off. Salary starting at $70,000 annually. This is a 
two-year full-time grant-funded appointment.

Responsibilities

Working with the Librarian for Research Data Management and Reproducibility, 
the main activities for Software Curation Specialist include:



Contribute to the development of a software preservation software suite via:



Roadmap development as a key partner and domain specialist on software 
preservation,


Writing a selection policy for software collecting to guide development,


Testing the software against defined criteria,


Developing publicly available user workflows, and


Extending or modifying metadata schemas for research software.





Explore and help establish a service model that applies digital curation 
principles and practice to software, such as:



Actively curating software built by the NYU community,        


Conducting outreach and instruction sessions, and


Contributing to Libraries-wide efforts to improve infrastructure for research 
needs (including software publishing)




Prepare articles, reports, data, code, and presentations (with co-authorship), 
and present/publish them at professional venues.


Qualifications

Required:


Master of Library and Information Science or similar degree (e.g. MSIS, M.A. 
archival science), or related experience


Experience with the standards, tools, and practices of digital preservation


Ability to communicate clearly and optimally, both orally and in writing


Strong project management skills


Preferred:


Familiarity with software development and associated technologies


Familiarity with computational research processes and tools (from any field)


Ability to work independently and complete tasks as part of a larger group


Proven creative problem solving skills


Capacity in prioritizing and managing multiple requirements simultaneously
