Scope of work

NYU Libraries is seeking expression of interest for a contractor for project 
management for Embedding Preservability in New Forms of Scholarship. Under the 
guidance of the Digital Scholarly Publishing Specialist, Digital Library 
Technology Services at NYU, the contractor will provide oversight for all day 
to day activities of the project. These include leading early project meetings 
to establish working relationships and timing of contacts with publishers and 
technology platform developers; developing workflows for communication and data 
collection for the project team; scheduling and documenting regular meetings 
with publishers, platform developers, and the project team; and contributing 
expert knowledge as part of a team that meets regularly with publishers. The 
contractor will contribute to a guidelines document, including a summary of 
activities and outcomes from the embedding work, and create a plan for its 
broad dissemination.

 

NYU Libraries expects to engage the contractor for 36 months for an estimated 
average of 10 hours per week. Compensation will be set at a fixed rate, 
contingent on completion of deliverables.

 

In order to be considered, individuals and corporations must hold sufficient 
general liability insurance. 

 

Deliverables


Schedule creation and maintenance for regular meetings with publishers, 
platform developers, and the project team, as well as two larger forums for all 
collaborators. Communication with all appropriate parties, including partner 
organizations and advisors, to track progress and reprioritize tasks as needed.


Management of the documentation and communication of data from embedding 
activities and preservation services.


Contribution of professional expertise on digital publishing and preservation 
to partner publishers


Project synthesis, data analysis, and the composition of reports and 
presentations.


3. Qualifications

Required Experience

Three years of project management experience in a cultural heritage, research 
library, or publishing setting. Experience with metadata schemas, vocabularies, 
content standards, and various encoding/transmission formats. Demonstrated 
success working collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals (both local 
and remote). • 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

Knowledge of digital publishing technologies, formats, and business practices. 
Management skills, including the ability to create and implement project plans 
and schedules, develop technical documentation, establish high performance 
standards, and deliver quality results. Excellent verbal and written 
communication skills; including the ability to report about complex data.

Preferred Education

MLIS, MS, or MA with concentration in archival administration or publishing, or 
equivalent experience.

Preferred Experience

Experience working with digital libraries or publishing projects of significant 
complexity. Familiarity with complex digital objects, digital preservation 
workflows, and/or publishing workflows.
