Under the supervision of the IT Manager, this position will serve as a Systems 
Engineer for the Auburn University Libraries. This position will be charged 
with setting up and maintaining servers per all University and Library IT 
policies, plans, and guidelines. This position will need a strong working 
knowledge of server operating systems, including Linux (primary) and Windows 
(secondary). The Libraries’ servers are primarily hosted in a virtual 
environment. The position will be responsible for setting up and supporting 
physical server hardware as needed. There is an expectation of night and 
weekend work to perform maintenance tasks or troubleshoot system outages.

Provides technical design, implementation, maintenance, system administration, 
and support of server software and hardware. Includes consultation and 
advising, problem identification and resolution, training and 
preparation/maintenance of documentation, and end-user support for 
server-related tasks. Participates in projects and cross-functional activities 
related to information technology initiatives or processes. Provides on-call 
support for designated systems and services.

Thorough knowledge of Linux system administration and virtualization; ability 
to document clearly; effective written and interpersonal communication skills; 
and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of users and 
support staff. Proven ability to initiate, track, and manage successfully 
multiple detail-oriented projects simultaneously. A commitment to an inclusive

Entry into applicant pool requires a high school diploma or equivalent and five 
(5) or more years of relevant/applicable server administration or server 
support experience.  Employer may consider advanced relevant degrees in lieu of 
experience.
