The Online Learning Librarian, under general supervision, serves as a member of 
the Research & Assessment department. This individual will participate in 
the library’s information literacy program and provide support for faculty and 
students in the University’s online programs. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Design, develop, and deliver effective and inclusive online instructional plans 
and resources, using accessibility guidelines and principles, best practices in 
inclusive and equitable pedagogy, and relevant library and higher education 
standards.
Gather data to assess the quality and impact of online instruction services.
Raise awareness and increase use of library services and resources among 
online, hybrid, and/or remote students and faculty.
Teach and promote the library’s instructional program based on goals and 
strategies derived from professional library standards and frameworks for 
information literacy.
Collaborate with others and work individually to produce and maintain a variety 
of informational and instructional materials such as online tutorials and 
reference guides.
Collaborate with university faculty, staff, and students to promote and 
integrate information literacy.
Conduct research consultations.
Serve as a liaison to the Graduate School, eLearning, and other academic 
departments.
Attend meetings, participate in special projects, and serve on committees 
relating to the library, the University, and consortia, as necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Education – Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent degree from an 
ALA-accredited institution.
Preferred Education and Experience

Experience designing and administering information literacy instruction and 
incorporating best pedagogical approaches to information literacy both 
in-person and virtually.
Familiarity with current and emerging trends in librarianship, specifically 
information literacy instruction and collection resources designed to support 
assigned liaison areas.
Experience with or interest in critical pedagogy.
Experience or familiarity with:
Media creation (video, audio, and visual)
Teaching through Learning Management Systems (Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, etc.)
Open educational resources (OER)
