Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Library Technician 2 
position in the University Libraries’ Metadata and Cataloging Department.  The 
ideal candidate will serve as the metadata liaison between the Metadata and 
Cataloging Department, Special Collections and University Archives, Digital 
Services, and other stakeholders. This position is responsible for planning, 
organizing, and supervising multiple complex metadata projects including 
creating and enhancing description for unique materials, communicating about 
project progress, and delegating work to student employees, as appropriate. 
This position primarily assigns appropriate metadata for digitized objects 
utilizing a metadata template, controlled vocabularies, and local descriptive 
standards. Duties also include overseeing student employee metadata work, 
creating descriptive metadata for library materials in various formats (with a 
focus on creating MARC21 records from EAD finding aids), as well as database 
maintenance in the Digital Archive (Islandora), Finding Aid Repository 
(ArchivesSpace), and the LSP (Alma).

Required Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three (3) years of 
experience in a library or other cultural heritage institution, including one 
(1) year of technical level work performing duties such as copy cataloging, 
acquisitions, electronic resource management, ; and/or organizing, curating and 
accessing government publications; OR one year of experience as a Library 
Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education 
and experience as described above.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with spreadsheets and tabular data.
Experience with MARC21 records and/or EAD finding aids.
Experience with controlled vocabularies such as LCSH, LC Name Authority File, 
LCGFT, etc.
Experience with ArchivesSpace, Alma, and/or Islandora.
Experience with using library data software such as OpenRefine and/or MarcEdit.
Supervisory experience.
