Cornell University Library (CUL) is hiring a manager for its library systems

CUL-IT supports one of the world’s leading academic research libraries, 
implementing strategic systems to support the work of students, faculty, staff, 
and researchers worldwide.

What you will do:

The Library Systems Manager is a member of the CUL-IT leadership team and 
oversees the development, technical support, and administration of 
applications, servers, and integrations that support the scholarly mission of 
the Cornell Library. The Library Systems team manages a hybrid, cloud-first IT 
infrastructure in AWS and Azure with emphasis on serverless development and 
containerization.  The team supports many of the core applications used by the 
Library such as dSpace, FOLIO, ArchivesSpace, apps by Springshare, Caiasoft, 
and Atlas Systems. The person in this role will inform decisions about future 
technical directions and best practices.

This role requires:

Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of relevant technical and managerial experience
Must be able to communicate and interact effectively with other CUL staff 
members, members of Cornell Information Technologies staff, and technology 
vendor representatives. Able to communicate with individuals having little or 
no technical training.
An understanding of how diversity, equity, and inclusion intersects with 
technology. Ability to create a welcoming and equitable environment for your 
staff and collaborators.
Working style that centers around being a proactive self-starter, as well as a 
collaborative team player
Ability to prioritize requests and negotiate timeframes for deliverables from 
different stakeholders
Ability to manage change effectively, while being mindful of technology, the 
library’s business processes, and systems implications
Ability to implement and support systems that align with the Library’s mission, 
including the discovery, preservation, and dissemination of knowledge and 
creative expression
Ability to analyze problems to design and implement solutions, both 
independently and as part of cross-functional teams
Experience with a variety of programming languages, databases, and Linux 
administration
Familiarity with IT security best practices; able to interpret policies and 
procedures effectively to guide self and others
Experience with needs analysis techniques and project management practices and 
tools

Potential for Hybrid Work:

This position is located in Ithaca, New York, though hybrid work is supported. 
The New York Convenience of the Employer Rule requires New York State 
individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional 
individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily 
outside New York State.
