Reporting to the Data Integrity Team Leader/Assistant Department Head for
Metadata Services, the Subject Authority and Database Maintenance Specialist
(SADMS) manages the workflow of subject authorities, examines reports of
non-conforming subject headings for possible correction, carries out revisions
to changed subject terms when heading updates are not automated, and
reconciles/remediates subject terms residing in digital library project and
institutional repository metadata. The SADMS analyzes problems involving
bibliographic, holdings, item records, and the corresponding object described,
resolving most problems independently and identifying problems that require
consultation with supervisor. The SADMS processes replacement volumes for all
Library locations, revising the bibliographic record as needed at the national
and local levels. The SADMS builds and maintains knowledge of various tools and
techniques that enable taking batch actions on metadata, and oversees projects
to correct and refine metadata using these tools. The SADMS creates and
enhances standard metadata as needed for digital library projects in all
disciplines. Also as needed, the SADMS will assist with the cataloging of new
titles being added to various collections, both monographs and serial
publications, including the small affiliated collections on campus.
