The Information Technology Manager oversees the small but dynamic Information 
Technology Department that manages and maintains the Athenæum’s computers, 
networks, servers, and cloud-based systems. The Information Technology Manager 
also keeps abreast of new technologies and implements those to ensure better 
and more secure systems. Reporting to the Director of Business Operations & 
Augusta Thomas Director of Finance, this is a full-time role with excellent 
benefits and a salary commensurate with experience.

 

Responsibilities Include:


Manage the Information Technology Department. Supervise and train IT 
employee(s).


Ensures that the department provides a high quality level of service to the 
institution


Oversees the Information Technology budget and evaluates any technology 
proposals 


Purchases, configures, and replaces equipment as well as day to day oversight 
and patching.


Responsible for system wide changes.Such changes could range from software 
standards to security settings on the WiFi network to implementing new 
technologies. 


Identifies new opportunities and technologies and keeps up to date on Technical 
and Professional Knowledge  to support the Athenæum’s IT operations as the 
technological environment evolves.


Actively manages the servers and network equipment used by the Boston Athenæum. 


Proactively monitors and asses all systems on a regular basis


Provides specialized system support and maintenance to systems including but 
not limited to Financial Edge, exacqVision, and Salesforce.


Provides computer support and training to staff


Identify, research, and resolve overall organizational, technical problems.


Document procedures for the computer system. 


Ensure all activities of the I.T department are aligned with and in support of 
the mission of the Boston Athenaeum


Work in partnership with colleagues  across departments  to achieve 
organizational goals.


Plans and develops systems security protocols. 


Develops, implements, and tests disaster recovery procedures on an annual basis.


Acts as AV support backup


Performs other duties as assigned.


 

Qualifications and Education Requirements


Bachelor’s degree.


Seven or more years of professional experience in computer support.


Strong customer service skills.


Supervisory experience.


In-depth knowledge of Windows desktop and server operating systems as well as 
Linux (Red Hat or Ubuntu preferred).


Advanced PC and server troubleshooting and repairing skills (both hardware and 
software).


Knowledge of managed network switches and routers.


Experience with Salesforce.


Comfortable writing Windows batch scripts and Unix/Linux shell scripts.


Familiarity with virtualization and XenServer.


Management of Microsoft Active Directory, especially user and computer 
administration.


Ability to instruct staff members on Microsoft Office and troubleshoot their 
problems.


Commitment to fostering a workplace culture of teamwork, diversity, and

Preferred


Experience with Google Workspace administration.


Experience with integrated library systems (ILS).


Experience with Dell servers and switches.


Demonstrated experience with databases (MS Access, MySQL, Oracle).


Proficiency with website management and development.
