Terry is right. Trains here are useless. The Greyhound will take less time (!), but lowest cost fare is only around half the cost of a plane ride, and refundable is comparable. If you can get a car or hitch a ride I-5 is not a great trip but fast enough: 1/101 takes a bit longer but at least is a pretty nice drive through CA (don’t know about Oregon). If you do fly, Southwest flies from Portland to Oakland for a good price, & Oakland is just a Bart ride from SF. best, Erik Hetzner
