One of the things that Bill Moen showed at Access a couple of years ago (Edmonton?) was what he and others were calling a "radioactive" Marc record. One that had no "normal" payload but, IIRC had a 245$a whose value was "245$a" etc. As I recall, it was used to test processes where you wanted to be sure that a specific field was mapped to a specific index, or was showing in a particular Z39.50 profiles.
