Clemson University Libraries is seeking a dynamic, team-oriented Systems Programmer II to focus on digital curation activities centered at Clemson and activities involving partner institutions. The successful candidate will work with both open source and proprietary applications and will be an active part of the development community for these applications. The Clemson University Libraries are currently embarking on new development efforts in the areas of digital repository development and digital preservation, and seek someone to lead the programming efforts for these exciting developments.
Position Description JOB PURPOSE: The Systems Programmer II will interact with a wide variety of individuals in the library and the university, working in Linux and Windows environments, providing software analysis, metadata transformation and support for digital library applications. This position will interact with counterparts at peer institutions developing and using similar systems. JOB FUNCTIONS: Develop and/or customize open source and proprietary library information systems/image management systems, including the development of Web interfaces and Web 2.0 tools, using programming and/or scripting languages. E/40% Installs, maintains, and manages overall administration of open source and proprietary database applications in both Linux and Windows server environments, which currently include CONTENTdm, XTF, Omeka, Archivist's Toolkit and WordPress. E/30% Transforms metadata schemas using XML/XSLT for display and searchability in a digital library environment. E/30% Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIECE: A high school diploma and at least 4 years of programming experience or a combination of an Associates Degree and a minimum of two years of experience. A Bachelors degree or advanced degree in Computer Science or related field may be substituted for experience. PREFERRED IN ADDITION TO THE MINIMUM: Programming experience in a digital library setting; experience with LOCKSS or similar systems. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Programming experience including XML/XSLT, SQL, Java, C/C++ and scripting languages such as PHP and Javascript, demonstrated familiarity with image formats, digital library standards and related metadata schemas and standards; operating environments including UNIX, Linux, OpenBSD and Windows; demonstrated familiarity with networking. Experience with web servers and web technologies. Interacts professionally with faculty, librarians and technical staff; demonstrates good customer service and communication skills. Position requires lifting, handling, or moving materials up to 25 lbs.
