Grand Valley State University Libraries is pleased to announce an expansion of 
our program in preparation for the Fall 2013 opening of the Mary Idema Pew 
Library Learning and Information Commons 
(gvsu.edu/library<http://www.gvsu.edu/library>). This structure will connect 
students, resources, and technology and change the face of education at GVSU. 
This new facility is designed with green building concepts and we are pursuing 
the highest possible LEED certification.

We are seeking energetic and innovative candidates for four new positions 
including 2 innovative positions:
Assist/Assoc Librarian: Data Management Services (12-month, tenure-track)
Assist/Assoc Librarian: Digital Initiatives (12-month, tenure-track)

Digital Initiatives Librarian
The new Digital Initiatives Librarian position will provide leadership and 
expertise in the identification, assessment, and implementation of emerging 
technologies that further the Libraries' mission. The successful candidate will 
also identify, develop and assist with implementing innovative technologies for 
improving the discovery, access, description, and sharing of scholarly digital 
resources. This position will develop, provide, and assess services in the new 
technology-equipped Mary Idema Pew Library Learning and Information Commons and 
will support scholarship, research, and academic activities conducted or 
enhanced through the use of digital technologies. This position will work with 
various departments and individuals to support and implement new and innovative 
ways to deliver library instruction, support faculty and students in the area 
of digital scholarship, and provide advice on technical best practices, 
standards, and processes for digitizing and archiving materials in a variety of 
formats.

Data Management Services Librarian
The new Data Management Services Librarian position will provide leadership and 
guidance in the development and implementation of data management strategies 
that will support discovery, access, management, and preservation of the 
Libraries' and University's physical and digital assets and resources. The 
successful candidate will be responsible for assessing user needs and keeping 
abreast of evolving metadata standards in order to develop appropriate 
descriptive, structural and administrative metadata schema for complex 
heterogeneous collections. This position will work with various departments and 
individuals throughout the campus to develop an e-records management and 
preservation strategy, determine faculty data service needs, and provide 
faculty and researcher assistance in writing data management plans for federal 
grant applications.

Salary ranges are commensurate with experience. GVSU employees enjoy a
