I was just there and I didn't have a problem with the checkbox (I was able to uncheck it without a problem). It's possible that they just really, really want you specifically on their mailing list....

Peeking at the code, I noticed that the form tag had the words, "checked" and "disabled". Now, since nobody could be so slimy as to do this intentionally (right?).
