The University of Wisconsin-Parkside invites applications for an Emerging
Technologies Librarian to provide innovative leadership in the use of
technology in the library, and will identify, evaluate and implement current
and emerging technologies and applications for delivery of library services.
Emphasis is on innovative ideas in reference and instruction, including
usability studies, web based assessments and statistics, distance and online
learning opportunities, instructional technology, virtual reference,
discovery, social networking, and mobile devices. The ETL will participate in
the instruction program and serve as a library liaison.

  
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  
A. Serves as Emerging Technologies Librarian,

  * Assists in planning and developing strategy for Learning Commons environment
  * Tracks trends, investigates new developments and applications, and 
incorporates appropriate technologies into the library/learning commons 
environment to improve and enhance all library services. Works collaboratively 
with Systems Librarian and other technology staff in planning, implementation, 
and installation of applications into existing library technology framework
  * Generates staff development opportunities for building technology awareness 
and encourages the adoption of technologies that improve the library's physical 
and virtual presence, and provides creative strategies to imbed resources and 
services into learning spaces
  * Contributes to library "technology team"
  * Collects and reports statistics and assesses impact of technology-based 
services on library users
  * Develops innovative research and instructional tools
  * Collaborates with Web Services Coordinator in design and development of 
library website
  * Provides reference and instructional services
  * Investigates development of institutional repositories, and distance and 
online learning opportunities
  * Performs other duties as assigned
B. Serves as liaison to faculty in designated areas in support of collection
development, instruction and reference and using technology to enhance
teaching and learning

  * Serves as liaison to faculty in designated areas of interest and expertise 
in support of outreach, collection development, reference and instruction
  * Participates actively in outreach efforts and fosters effective 
collaborative relationships with faculty and staff to increase awareness of 
library technology resources and promote their enhanced use
C. Provides service to campus, community and UW System

  * Serve on committees and teams in library and UW system and serve on 
professional committees as elected or appointed
  * Participate in relevant conferences so as to stay current with trends and 
issues in profession
  * Work with colleagues to enhance library's image on campus and in community
  
D. Performs other duties as assigned

  
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  * Demonstrated initiative and achievement in creation of new and innovative 
library services in support of students
  * Demonstrated experience with collecting web based statistics, analyzing 
patterns, and creating and improving services via quantitative and qualitative 
analysis
  * Demonstrated experience with small and medium sized group web usability 
testing
  * Experience with distance learning technologies, including creation of 
guides and instructing faculty, students and staff on distance learning 
initiatives
  * Experience with management of mobile devices, including iPads and other 
technology
  * Knowledge of web client and server applications, databases and web 
programming (HTML, CSS, XML and scripting languages)
  * Experience using course management systems, online collaborative 
productivity tools, and content management systems (LibGuides, Wordpress, D2L)
  * Proficiency in the use of traditional and electronic resources
  * Experience with reference and instruction in an academic library
  * Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  * Ability and desire to work collegially in small groups and team environment
  * Ability to think critically, analyze problems, and develop and implement 
creative solutions
  * Significant mobility and dexterity to move around the library and retrieve 
and carry materials from library shelving and cabinets when providing service, 
including standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 
35lbs.), reaching into deep drawers, reaching high shelves; manual dexterity to 
pull, handle and shelve books, oversized materials, software, and a variety of 
media formats; ability to push bookcarts; ability to load microform 
readers/printers; ability to read titles on shelves and print on computer 
screens; ability to work with keyboard, mouse and monitor for extended periods 
of time; ability to travel to attend training workshops, meetings and 
conferences
Qualifications:

  
Required:

  * Graduate library degree from ALA accredited library school
  * Mid-level professional library experience with experience in electronic 
services or emerging technologies field
  * Demonstrated experience implementing technologies to enhance services
  * Demonstrated experience in project management
Preferred:

  * Demonstrated experience working with a diverse, multicultural population
  * Demonstrated experience working in an academic setting

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University of
